The Grassland Vehicle Inspection and CVSA building incorporates the vehicle inspection services of Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security on Highway 63, north of Grassland. The project involves two buildings, an office building (VIS) for weighing and preliminary visual inspection of vehicles, as well as office functions. The VIS incorporates PERSIST building technology. The other building (CVSA) facilitates more intensive inspection of trucks, including a cat-walk, a lighted trench and a brake-tester with a sophisticated extraction system for ventilation of fumes.
N53 drew design inspiration from the wide prairie skies and the thick boreal forests of northern Alberta. The exterior of the building is painted in broad vertical stripes of blue that makes it stand out from the prairie grass surrounding it, while the interior of the building makes bold use of glulam beams and wood decking to create a warm and calm indoor environment.
